'RUPTURE' by Charles Matadin, 2026

Steel, Clay, Bronze, Wood, Rope, Foam / 8' x 4' x 4'

Installation presented in conjunction with the 1 year anniversary of AZUL on Sept. 18th, 2026.

Part of Matadin's 2026 Graduate Collection from the Rhode Island School of Design.
The static suspended whale inside a hexagonal prism explores an abstract view of humanities (dis)connection between industrialized frameworks of production, exhibition, and entertainment, and the natural world. Humanity relies on systems of production for food and survival yet remains profoundly disconnected from the source. The inherent geometry of the prism evokes the human hand in these different modes of containment. This cage becomes a frame that situates the interior as an object, not entity, to be contained.

AZUL is pleased to present the work of Charles Matadin in the New York space.
'RUPTURE' is on view throughout the rest of 2026, and into the New Year.
